Evelina Leona Close-Whitmore (Correia) was born in Hanford, Ca,
the 2nd oldest of 6 children to Joaquin (Jack) Correia and Lena Correia.
Evelina passed away unexpectedly on August 20, 2020 in Fresno, Ca.
Evelina spent many years as a waitress and was always serving others
with a smile on her face. Evelina had a hobby that included cooking. She
loved to cook for others and everyone enjoyed her meals, especially her
Christmas platters, jelly and banana nut bread. Evelina is survived by her
two sons and stepdaughter, Joseph Sanzberro (Cathy), Bryan Close
(Heather), and Rhonda Gilmore.
Also surviving Evelina are (7) grandchildren, Caitlin Sanzberro,
Megan Gilmore, Cailey Sanzberro, Sophia Gilmore, Brynn Close, Brylee
Close, and Brysan Close and (1) great grandchild, Noah Ortega, and (4)
Sisters, Margaret Close (Robert), Christine Lawrence (Ed), Sallie Ockey
(Jeff), and Lisa Correia. Evelina also left behind many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Evelina was preceded in death by Joaquin Correia (father), Lena
Correia (mother), and Daniel Correia (brother).
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you make a donation to the
American Red Heart Association. A “Celebration of Life” will be held at the Riverdale Portuguese Hall on Tuesday, August 25th at 1pm.
