Obituary for Gary Anderson

Gary Neal Anderson was born in Fresno on September 6, 1946. His earliest job was working as a Fresno Bee carrier as a boy. In high school and for a time after his graduation from Fresno High School in 1964, he worked at Zack‘s Car Wash on Blackstone. There he enjoyed driving the cars from the car lots and back for washes. It’s been said that perhaps those cars got more of a work out than they should have!
He joined the United States Army in 1966 and was employed as Military Police and later as a Special Agent in the Criminal Investigation Division (CID). He attained the rank of CW4 and retired after 26 years in 1992. Gary and his wife Nancy had two children, Kelly in 1978 and David in 1982. Nancy died in 1994.
In 1995 Gary proposed to Delana Traynor and she moved from South Dakota to California with her three children and they were married in 1998. Gary enjoyed all things cars. Classics, hot rods, muscle cars. NASCAR and the drags. He had numerous die cast models and many books. He would have owned a couple of thousand cars if he could have! He loved the mountains, fishing and camping. He also enjoyed going to the coast for seafood and clam chowder. He liked to take care of the rose garden, puttering outside and doing some chores around the house. Gary was an excellent cook and fixed a mean homemade spaghetti sauce, tri-tip and tacos. Gary was a member of the American Legion, The National Rifle Association and a founder of the National Museum of the United States Army. Major health issues reared their ugly head in 2012. Gary is dearly loved and missed in so many ways and for so many reasons. His rest is well deserved.
He was preceded in death by his mother Ruth Ellen Davidson, his father John Moon Anderson and a grandson Jonathan Harrell. Gary is survived by two children, Kelly Montgomery (Dennis) of San Antonio, Texas and David Anderson (Danielle) of Fort Leonard Wood, MO. As well as 4 stepchildren: Patricia Harrell (John Jarussi) of Wasilla, AK, Kevin Traynor of Little Elm, TX, Katie Maloy (Shaun) of Lemoore, and Krista Traynor of Lemoore, along with 19 grandchildren.
A Memorial Service will be held on Friday, March 6, at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Lemoore at 11:00 A.M. Friends who wish can make donations in Gary’s memory to the American Cancer Society, 2222 W. Shaw Ave., #201, Fresno, CA 93711.
