Obituary for Jean Cho Wong

Mrs. Jean Cho Wong, 94, of Tustin, CA, passed away on September 13, 2022, of natural causes. She passed peacefully in her sleep, comfortable and surrounded by her loved ones.

Jean was born on December 19, 1927, in Guangdong, China. She spent her childhood in China and Vietnam before eventually coming to America in 1948 after marrying Mr. Dick Cho, a U.S. Army veteran. They settled in Huron, CA, where they owned and operated Lassen Market.

After arriving in America, Jean was blessed with a large family, having seven children, Dr. Larry Cho, Dr. JoAnn Young, Dr. Judy Slone, Dr. Leland Cho, Dr. Richard Cho, Dr. Robert Cho, and Mrs. Julie Cho Lee

She dedicated her life to family and friends, being an extremely kind and patient mother to all. Jean excelled at supporting her family through the many difficulties and uncertainties of life. Whether that was through caring for Dick during times of illness or helping her children navigate the demanding and rigorous schedules of graduate school, Jean made it her mission to improve the lives of others. Her gentle and loving spirit will live on in all of us.

Jean had a true zest for life. Her biggest passions were cooking, ballroom dancing, origami, and making silk flower arrangements. She was also an avid traveler visiting places all around the world, ranging from her village in China to the Galapagos Islands in Ecuador. She loved to take cruises, even celebrating her 80th birthday on an Alaskan cruise, surrounded by her entire family.

After the tragic death of her first husband, Dick, in 1983, Jean remarried in 1989 to Eugene Wong of Fresno, CA.

Jean was predeceased by her husbands, Mr. Dick Cho and Mr. Eugene Wong, her brother, Mr. Henry Lau, and sister, Mrs. Amy Lum. She is survived by her children, Larry (Stefanie Shiu), JoAnn, Judy (Charles Slone), Leland (Juana Tapia), Richard (Rika Maruya), Robert (Jinhee Park), and Julie (Eric Lee), her grandchildren, Jessica (Terry Stackwood), Michael (Amanda Young), Justin, Joshua, Rachelle (Jeff Barrio), Ryan, Megan, Caitlyn, Steven, Mackenzie, Hannah, Isabella, and Richelle, and her great grandchildren, Zachary and Brandon.

The family requests that flowers and notes be sent to Phipps-Dale Funeral Chapel, 420 West ā€œDā€ St., Lemoore, CA, 93245. A funeral service/celebration of life will be held on September 23, 2022, at Phipps-Dale Funeral Chapel. Visitation will begin at 10:00 am and this will be followed by a chapel service at 11:00 am. A graveside service will be held at 2:00 pm at the Hanford Cemetery, located at 10500 South 10th Ave., Hanford, CA.
